So we don’t actually have a pantry in our home. Instead we have a huge utility shelf holding all our food. But I don’t exactly like visual clutter. Additionally, I have a two year old so I couldn’t leave my beans and rice products out on our open utility shelf. We had an incident with lentils once and that the ultimate push to find a solution. So I bought an island cabinet to hide all of our beans and rice and some canned products. This kept our toddler out of these food items. And our space visually looked nice but unfortunately if things are out of sight, then they’re also out of mind. Meaning, I’d forget about all the different food I had stored in the closed cabinets. I’d end up with so many duplicates that things would expire and I’d eventually have to get rid of them.
So I had to find a solution. I then found this product on Amazon. It’s an over the door shelf. What I like about this shelf (my husband also loved this) is that it does not require you to make any holes on your door. It has adhesive strips to help with stabilization of the shelf. So long as you use some isopropyl alcohol to clean the area first, the adhesive sticks pretty good! Adding to its stability, it also has two cross bars on each side that hold the shelves to keep them in place. Load is baring from hanging on the door and from the crossbars and the adhesive. It’s a great solution!
With the is products physical structure in mind, I was able to put this together all on my own too. All the tools are provided (except the isopropyl alcohol to clean the door where you’re putting the adhesive strips). And it’s light weight and instructions are clear. I even had my baby on the baby carrier while I assembled.
As far as the things it can hold. I don’t have many cans stored on it, but I do have most of my dry goods on it and it holds well. So I can’t speak to the claim on poundage load that it can handle. I had bought these canisters before hand which also fit perfectly on the this shelf too!
I put the hanging portion over our garage door on instead towards the garage, out side of our kitchen. So my toddler now has no access to these items now either.
So this works for what I need it for!
1. Store my dry goods.
2. Store in a visual manner so I can see what I do or do not need to buy for my next grocery store trip.
3. Store in a way that reduces visual clutter.
4. Keeps my toddler away from these items.
